CHICAGO, October 23, 2015— Following an extensive RFP (Request for Proposal) process, President Preckwinkle announced today that Cook County and the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) have selected the development team of Clayco and CBRE to lead the programming, design and implementation phases for a new outpatient facility and administrative office building on the CCHHS Central Campus.

By closely collaborating with CCHHS and the County, the Clayco and CBRE team will identify and implement the core medical needs program including: new outpatient clinical space replacing the current outdated Fantus building, physician and administrative offices replacing the administration building on Polk Street, related conference facilities, amenities, and parking study. The Clayco and CBRE team for the Phase One programming effort also includes MBE/ WBE firms Ardmore Associates, Brooks Architecture, Carol Naughton & Associates, Inc., dbHMS, Environmental Design International Inc., Matrix Engineering Corporation, Site Design Group and Trinal, Inc. Additionally, Gensler/Forum Studio will serve as the project’s architect and Christner will serve as the project’s planners.

“The ever evolving and advancing health care environment necessitates improving the facilities at the Cook County Health & Hospitals System for its patients, staff and doctors while continuing to deliver the highest quality community health care and patient experience to remain competitive,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “We appreciate the great interest and effort from the development and health care communities who participated in this important process. We look forward to partnering with the Clayco and CBRE team who will provide the industry expertise necessary to realize the CCHHS and County’s vision for a signature facility commensurate with the high quality of care afforded the community throughout the system.”

Upon Board approval, the Clayco and CBRE team will begin a three and a half month Phase One programming and schematic design effort for the clinical and office spaces. Ground breaking is anticipated to occur during the first quarter of 2017. Phase Two will be the final design and advancement stage, with completion of the new building anticipated in mid-2018.

“Improvements in our clinical space and patient amenities will go a long way in making CCHHS a provider of choice,” said Dr. Jay Shannon, CEO, CCHHS. “We are looking forward to serving our patients in a new, modern facility that is reflective of the high-quality care we provide.”

The RFP process attracted interest from five national and international development teams. The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership will work closely with the development teams on a community strategy related to hiring local people for project related jobs which will come available in 2017.
